Kirill Sokolov is a Russian director/writer/editor who made four short dramatic and comic Russian films from 2012 to 2015, including Sisyphus is happy (2012), Could be worse (2012), The Outcome (2014) and The Flame (2015), and then he switched to feature with his debut as director/writer/editor of the dark Russian comedy, Why Don’t You Just Die! (2018), with Aleksandr Kuznetsov, Vitaly Khaev, Yevgenia Kregzhde and Yelena Shevchenko, released by Arrow Films and premiering at the Talinn Black Nights Film Festival. Sokolov made his second feature as director/writer/editor of the dark comedy crime Russian movie, No Looking Back (2021), co-starring Sofya Krugova, Viktoriya Korotkova, and Anna Mikhalkova, and released by PROvzglyad.
Sokolov made his U.S. filmmaking debut as director/co-writer of the horror comedy, They Will Kill You (2026), starring Zazie Beetz, Myha’la, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette, launching at the South by Southwest Film Festival, produced by New Line Cinema/Nocturna and released wide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Kirill Sokolov was born and raised in the former Leningrad (currently St. Petersburg), Russia, by his parents. Sokolov attended and graduated from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and then studied in filmmaking workshops, in which he made his first short films.
