Kat Coiro (birthname: Katherine Cunningham-Eves), before being a go-to director/producer for network and streaming series (such as CBS’ Matlock (2024-2026), started in feature filmmaking as director/co-writer/co-producer of the indie comedy, Life Happens (2011), co-written by and starring Krysten Ritter, with Kate Bosworth, Rachel Bilson, Geoff Stults, Justin Kirk, Seymour Cassel, Rhys Coiro, Jason Biggs and Kristen Johnston, and released in limited pattern by Lionsgate. Coiro was director/writer/producer of the drama, And While We Were Here (2012), starring Kate Bosworth, with Jamie Blackley and Iddo Goldberg, launching at the Tribeca Film Festival and in competition at the Locarno Film Festival, and distributed by Well Go USA Entertainment.
Coiro took on her third feature film as director only of the rom com, A Case of You (2013), starring Justin Long (who was also a co-writer and a producer), Evan Rachel Wood, Brendan Fraser, Vince Vaughn, Peter Dinklage, Keir O’Donnell (who like Long was also a co-writer and a producer) and Busy Philipps, and which was released by IFC Films after premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival. Coiro returned to features after a nine-year absence (working for the small screen) and directed her highest profile movie to date with another rom-com, Marry Me (2022), produced by and starring Jennifer Lopez, co-starring Owen Wilson, Maluma, John Bradley, Chloe Coleman, and Sarah Silverman, and which grossed $56.5 million for Universal Pictures.
Kat Coiro continued in the rom-com genre for the Italian-set You, Me & Tuscany (2026), pairing co-stars Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page, with Marco Calvani, Lorenzo de Moor, and Nia Vardalos, produced by Will Packer Productions and released widely by Universal Pictures.
Kat Coiro was born and raised as Katherine Cunningham-Eves in Manhattan by parents Peter Eves and Gina Cunningham-Eves. Coiro has one sister, Emmy (production designer/art director). Coiro attended the boarding school Interlochen Arts Academy. Coiro attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University, where she studied theater and Russian History, and studied directing at the Moscow Art Theater in 2001. Coiro is married to actor/producer Rhys Coiro; the couple has three children and lives in Los Angeles.
