Johnny Sequoyah (birthname: Johnny Sequoyah Friedenberg) began acting as a child and (unlike many child actors) built her career from there into adulthood, beginning—after an uncredited role in the comedy Ass Backwards (2013)—in director-writer Leah Meyerhoff’s indie coming-of-age drama, I Believe in Unicorns (2014), with Natalia Dyer, Peter Vack, Julia Garner and Amy Seimetz, produced by Sequoyah’s mother Heather Rae, launching at the South by Southwest Film Festival before a release by Gravitas Ventures. Sequoyah played a supporting role in her father Russell Friedenberg’s comedy-drama as co-director/writer, Among Ravens (2014), starring Amy Smart, Joshua Leonard, Christian Campbell, Victoria Smurft, Natalie Imbruglia, and Will McCormack, and released ina limited pattern by Gravitas Ventures.
Sequoyah continued her acting career as a young teen joining the cast of director Erica Dunton’s drama, Black Eyed Dog (2014), starring Mackenzie Foy, Chandler Canterbury, Bryce Hurless, Hilarie Burton, Paul Schneider, Joshua Leonard and Mark Jeffrey Miller, and then Sequoyah appeared in a supporting role in director/writer/actor Russell Friedenberg’s horror movie in the Everglades, Wind Walkers (2015), with Zane Holtz, Glen Powell, Kiowa Gordon, Phil Burke and Castille Landon, and produced by Iron Circle Pictures/Sweet Tomato Films.
Sequoyah landed her biggest role to date in director/co-writer Landon’s family fantasy movie, Albion: The Enchanted Stallion (2016), starring Stephen Dorff, Avery Arendes, Heather Rae (Sequoyah’s mother playing her character’s mother), and John Cleese, and produced by Character Brigade/Dream Team Films/Hungry Bull Productions.
Sequoyah had her first starring role as an adult in a feature with director/co-writer Johannes Roberts’ horror movie, Primate (2025), co-written by Ernest Riera, with Jessica Alexander, Troy Kotsur, and Kae Alexander, launching at the Fantastic Fest and released wide by Paramount Pictures.
Johnny Sequoyah was born and raised until age eight in Boise, Idaho, by her parents, Russell Freidenberg (director/writer) and her mother, Heather Rae (film and television producer/director). Sequoyah’s family then moved to Los Angeles when she began her acting career as a child actor. Sequoyah’s height is 5’ 6½ ”.
